Growing in Unity - Day 5 - Mixed Media Project

Image
It's Day 5 of Growing in Unity, my final GIU day.  This has been such fun journey and I wanted to share a special Mixed Media project.  Mixed Media is a great way to let the creative juices flow and just have fun with the different mediums in my craftroom. For this project, I use 3 different Unity stamp sets:  Beautiful Soul for the main image Let Adventure for the backgroud Layers of Life - Soul Searching for the sentiment The focal image is from the Unity Beautiful Soul stamp set and it was stamp with VersaFine black ink as the plan is to watercolor it. I used the Jane Davenpor Neutral palette watercolor set to color her. Now to work on the background using the Ranger Giant (#12) tag This seemed a bit too large so I cut it down to 6 inches and used the Tim Holtz Tag Collection dies to make smaller tags. I pulled some music tissue paper and glued it down with mat medium; not worrying too much if it was covered completely or not; this will provide a nice base texture. A bit of ges

Growing in Unity - Day 4 - Red, White and Blue Glittery fun

Image
Today is all about a Red, White and Blue color challenge and getting messy with glitter!  The Unity America Girl set is the stamp set for this challenge. I stamp the girl on Strathmore colored pencil paper and pulled out my Prismacolor pencils. For the colors, I wanted the outfit to be mainly blue and red with a touch of gold.  For the skintone, I chose a light beige color and a darker brown for the hair. I started with the dark blue pencil, adding it heavily as I will use the gamsol to blend it out. Once I'm done withe blue parts, it's time to add red. The gold, light, and dark brown color pencils were added the same way and used gamsol to blend it out the colors.  For her shorts, I added a touch of Clear Wink of Stella.  Now to work on the background,  I wanted a glittery background and found these large sequins in my stash.  I add double sided tape to white cardstock, placed a few large square sequins first then added the small square both in a random pattern.  The final st

Growing in Unity - Day 3 - Shine On

Image
Day 3 post of GIU and its all about the shine with this card.  I grab the Unity/DecoFoil Toner Card Fonts, toner some foil and results are simply stunning! I took the Unity Butterfuly Fly Away - DecoFoil Toner Card Fonts and ran the DecoFoil Rainbow Shattered Glass  toner foil through my minc machine. Isn't this background just beautiful!  These toner sheets are amazing as you can color them, blend color over them or use the toner foil, either way they are fun to play with and a must have in my craftroom. I used Kat Scrappiness Cross Stitched Rectangle dies to add a little detail to the butterfly card front.  I also die cut a white panel using the same die.  On the white panel, I stamped the sentiment from the Unity Beauty Beyond Words stamp set.  It looked a bit plain so pulled out my Distress Stains (Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, & Cracked Pistachio) along with Spectrum Noir Crystal Clear Glitter Ink.  I placed the colors on my glass mat and added a touch of glitter i

Growing in Unity 2020 - Day 2 - Clean and Simple

Image
My next card is my verison of a clean and simple card using two different stamp sets.  It is very hard for me to do clean and simple cards but here I go.... The floral is from the Unity Another Name for Love  set and the sentiment is from the Unity July 2020 Uniquely Unity kit You Grow Girl . I started by die cutting the gray cardstock using Gina Marie Double Rope rectangle die and the yellow cardstock using Kat Scrappiness Stitiched Scalloped rectangle die.  These dies add visual interest while allowing the stamp image to remain the focal image.  I stamped the Unity floral image ( Another Name from Love ) using vermark ink and embossed with Ranger gold embossing powder for the gray cardstock and WOW white embossing powder for the yellow cardstock. To add more depth and to make the embossing pop, I pulled out my distressed inks and a blender brush to add a little color to card front.  Now to add the sentiment, vellum will give a soft look (backed with white cardstock).  I heat embosse

Growing in Unity - Day 1 - Coffee, of course

Image
I'm so excited to be able to share my crafty projects during my week at Growing in Unity (GIU).  I have love Unity Stamp Co for stamps for my years and and love the variety of images they have to offer.  For my first card, I thought it would be appropriate to share a coffee theme card.  My family and friends all know my love of coffee - it is the perfect way to start any day.  During the summer months, a nice ice coffee is so refreshing. The coffee image is from the Unity Brew Like A Boss set.  I colored the image with a variety of copics, darker browns on the bottom as I prefer my coffee with only a splash of milk.  The ice and uppper portion of the cup has a light browns and grays.  The flower was colored with blue green colors to match the paper and a bit of Winston & Newton Gold drawing ink to the flower stem.  To give the cup a glossy look I covered it with Piccole Embossing Powder Adhesvie (liquid embossing ink) using a small paintbrush and added WOW Clear Gloss embossin
