Growing in Unity - Day 4 - Red, White and Blue Glittery fun

Today is all about a Red, White and Blue color challenge and getting messy with glitter!  The Unity America Girl set is the stamp set for this challenge.

I stamp the girl on Strathmore colored pencil paper and pulled out my Prismacolor pencils.

For the colors, I wanted the outfit to be mainly blue and red with a touch of gold.  For the skintone, I chose a light beige color and a darker brown for the hair.

I started with the dark blue pencil, adding it heavily as I will use the gamsol to blend it out.

Once I'm done withe blue parts, it's time to add red.

The gold, light, and dark brown color pencils were added the same way and used gamsol to blend it out the colors.  For her shorts, I added a touch of Clear Wink of Stella.

Now to work on the background,  I wanted a glittery background and found these large sequins in my stash.  I add double sided tape to white cardstock, placed a few large square sequins first then added the small square both in a random pattern.  The final step is to cover the rest with white glitter.

This technique can be used with any style or size of sequin or glitter.  Here are a few more backgrounds I made while I had the supplies out on my desk.  I like to make extra backgrounds so I can them them on hand for future projects.

I used  MFT Hip Hip Hooray Die set on the glittery backgrounds.  In addition, red cardstock was cut using Divinity Designs Mat A Rectangle Die.  Disclaimer, I don't always cut straight so these rectanglar type of dies are paper savers for me... LOL

The sentiment was added to the bottom of the red card stock from the same Unity America Girl set, the girl image was cut out using the Scan n Cut and popped up

Here is a quick video to show the glittery fun.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  Don't forget to leave a comment on all of the GIU posts for a chance to win a huge Unity grab bag of stamps.  Happy Crafting!

  10. Such a fun card! Love it! I have used Mineral Spirits instead of Gamsol (since it's not available anywhere in-store - ugh) to blend, but I like the tiny bottle of Gamsol so much better. :)

    1. If you have a Hobby Lobby near year, try getting the Gamsol there. It is in there art department and with a coupon is very reasonable.
